Spider man PS4 game review
Marvel's Spider-Man is an action-adventure game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Released exclusively for PlayStation 4 in September 2018, the game offers an original take on the Spider-Man universe, featuring a seasoned Peter Parker rather than an origin story.
Story
Set in a vibrant open-world New York City, the game follows Peter Parker, who has been Spider-Man for eight years. He works alongside NYPD officer Yuri Watanabe to take down crime lord Wilson Fisk (Kingpin). However, a new threat emerges in the form of the Demon gang, led by Martin Li (Mister Negative), who has a personal vendetta against Peter's mentor, Mayor Norman Osborn. As the story unfolds, Peter faces multiple villains, including Doctor Octopus, Electro, Scorpion, Vulture, and Rhino, all forming the Sinister Six.
Meanwhile, Peter’s personal life is explored through his relationships with Mary Jane Watson (MJ), Aunt May, and best friend Miles Morales, who later gains spider-powers. The game balances Spider-Man’s crime-fighting responsibilities with Parker’s struggles, making for a compelling narrative.
Gameplay
Traversal: The game features fluid and dynamic web-swinging mechanics, allowing players to traverse NYC effortlessly.
Combat: Inspired by the Batman: Arkham series, the combat is fast-paced, using web-based attacks, gadgets, and environmental interactions.
Stealth & Gadgets: Spider-Man can use a variety of gadgets like web shooters, trip mines, and impact webbing to take down enemies silently or in combat.
Side Missions & Collectibles: Players can engage in side quests, collect backpacks, stop crimes, and take on challenges from villains like Taskmaster.
DLC & Expansions
The game received The City That Never Sleeps DLC, a three-part expansion featuring Black Cat, Hammerhead, and Silver Sable, adding new missions, suits, and challenges.
Critical Reception & Legacy
The game was highly praised for its story, gameplay, web-swinging mechanics, and character development. It won multiple awards and became one of the best-selling PS4 exclusives. A remastered version was later released for PS5, along with a standalone sequel, Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020), and a full sequel, Spider-Man 2 (2023).
